How these sites make money #

A comparison platform is generally paid by the providers it features, through referral fees, per-enquiry payments or advertising arrangements. That is what pays for the site, and it means the reader is not the customer in the transaction that funds it.

Knowing that should change how you read any comparison site, including this one. The relevant question is never whether a site is compensated, because they all are. It is whether the compensation is allowed to decide what you are shown.

Where we are today #

No compensation arrangement is live at the time of writing. No provider is paying to appear on this site, no referral fee is being earned, and no enquiry is being sold. What you are reading was not bought.

We expect that to change, because the model above is how a site like this becomes sustainable. When it does, this page is updated first and dated, so the disclosure exists before the money does rather than after it.

Compensation does not set the order #

Where results, providers or products are listed on this site, compensation does not determine the order, the prominence, or whether something is included at all. Those are decided on the basis stated on the page you are reading.

If that ever changes for any part of the site, it will be stated in plain words on the page where it applies, not buried here. A disclosure that a reasonable person would have to hunt for is not a disclosure.

Coverage is not the whole market #

No comparison platform covers everything, and one that claims to is describing its network rather than the market. Products outside our coverage may suit you better.

Two specific cases worth your time regardless of what we show you: your own bank, which may price your existing relationship better than a new lender will, and a local credit union, which typically pays nobody to be compared and therefore appears on almost no site like this one.

What we will not do for money #

We do not accept payment to describe a product as something it is not, to omit a fee, to present a rate in a way that makes it look lower than it is, or to leave out a drawback a reasonable person would want to know about.

We do not accept payment to remove a criticism, and we do not remove an accurate one because a provider asked.
